John Phillip Wright


(November 18, 1968---July 28, 2005)


Elmira-Funeral services for John Wright, 36, of Elmira, and formerly of Ogdensburg, will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Peter and Paul's Church, Elmira. A Funeral Mass will be held at Notre Dame Church, Ogdensburg, at a later date.

Calling hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the Olthof Funeral Home, Elmira. Three close friends from Ogdensburg: Kevin Wright, Rick Reynolds and Mike Main will serve as pall bearers at the funeral.

Mr. Wright died Thursday (July 28, 2005) at his home after a long illness.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberly; two sons, Cody and Russell, at home; a daughter, Olivia, at home; his father Walter "Skip" Wright, Ogdensburg; his mother and stepfather, Donna and David Barr, Ogdensburg; his mother-in-law, Joanne Russell, Ogdensburg; his grandmother, Dode Wright, Ogdensburg; a sister, Kara Wright, Ogdensburg; a niece, Kelsi Fraser, Ogdensburg; and a nephew, Karson LaRose, Ogdensburg; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Mr. Wright was predeceased by his grandfather, Walter "Monk" Wright.

He was born in 1968 in Ogdensburg, the son of Walter and Donna (Stick) Wright. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1987, where he played basketball and still holds a record for most points scored in a season. He attended Cazenovia College.

He married Kimberly Russell on August 17, 1996, at Notre Dame Church, Ogdensburg, with Rev. Mickey Demo officiating.

Mr. Wright worked for the Journal and Advance News in Ogdensburg as circulation manager.

He later worked for the Star-Gazette in Elmira for eight years in the circulation department, and was the retail sales manager before being diagnosed with cancer last October. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
