Mendell T. Bartlett, a lifelong resident of this village and vicinity, died at his farm home on the west side of the Racket river Monday morning, November 10, aged 70 years. Mr. Bartlett was born in Fort Covington, N.Y., November 29, 1860, son of Luther and Jane White Bartlett. In 1865 his parents moved to Norwood and settled on the farm at the top of the hill in South Main street, which has since been known as Bartlett Hill.
In 1898, Mendell Bartlett disposed of the farm at the top of the hill and purchased another farm on the west side of the Racket river then known as the Dave Reed farm. About ten years ago he sold this farm to his son, Luther Bartlett, and moved to a smaller farm adjoining, upon which he made his summer home, spending the winters in Florida. Mr. Bartlett was actively engaged in the cultivation on his farm until about one year ago.
In 1890 he was united in marriage with Miss Anna M. Russell, who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Luther and Charles of Norwood, and three daughters, Mrs. Bernice Borrman of Norwood, Miss Doris, of Oneida, and Miss Carrie of Watertown, also six grandchildren.
The funeral will be held from the home at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, (today) Rev. R.S. Cuddy, of the Congregational church, officiating. Burial will be made in Riverside Cemetery.
