Joseph Gravelin


(January 29, 1884-September 28, 1968)


NORWOOD--Funeral services for Joseph Gravelin, 48 Mechanic St., Norwood, retired paper maker and resident of this area for more than fifty years, were held from St. Andrew’s Church, Norwood, Sept. 30, 1968, with Rev. Francis Ruddy, pastor, officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Potsdam.

Mr. Gravelin was stricken at his home early Friday morning and declared dead on arrival at the Potsdam Hospital at 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

Surviving are three sons, Ernest, Harold and Raymond; one daughter, Mrs. Loretta Connelly, all of Norwood; one brother, Edward Gravelin, Oswego and one sister, Mrs. Sadie Gardner, Moira; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gravelin was born in Burke, Jan. 29, 1884, a son of Charles and Delia Gorrow Gravelin. He was married to Miss Alice Monette Oct. 21, 1912, at the Notre Dame Church, Malone, with Father Blanchard officiating.

The couple moved to the Norwood area where he was employed by the Racquette River Paper Co., the Norfolk Paper Co., and the Martin Pulp and Paper Co. before his retirement. He later worked for the Village of Norwood until 1960.

He was a member of St. Andrew’s Church, Norwood.
