John McCormick

Watertown--John McCormick, 99, retired New York Central R. R. engineer and native of Norwood, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1964, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gertrude A. McCarthy, 133 Ward St., with whom he had lived for years. He was found dead in bed by his daughter. He would have been 100 years old Dec. 29.

Funeral will be Friday morning at St. Andrew’s Church in Norwood with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Norwood.

He is survived by his daughter, widow of former Postmaster Francis J. McCarthy, and a son, John S. McCormick, 133 Ward St.

Mr. McCormick was born at Norwood and married Miss Nora Sullivan in 1892. They lived in Norwood until her death in Norwood when he came to Watertown to make his home.

Be began his railroad career in 1884 at Norwood as fireman. He was promoted to engineer 10 years later. His runs were out of Norwood, Watertown and later Ogdensburg. He retired in 1935.
