Leal R. Kirk


(March 10, 1932-August 16, 1990)






NORWOOD -- The funeral for Leal R. Kirk, 58, of 16 Prospect St., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Norwood United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dan Corretore officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.


Mr. Kirk died Thursday morning at his home, following a lengthy illness with lung disease.


Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Buck Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, the Norwood Rescue Squad or the St. Lawrence Valley Hospice.


Surviving are his wife, Betty; a son, Alan, Dallas, Texas; three daughters, Mrs. Jefferson (Marilee) Toppinks, Arlington, Texas, Mrs. Daniel (Karen) Peterson, Richland Hills, Texas, and Mrs. David (Cheryl) Koon, Rochester; 10 grandchildren; his mother, Eufaula Waterman, Georgetown, Del.; a brother, Homer, Corning, and a sister, Mrs. James (Isabelle) Winfield, Corning.


A brother, Robert, died before him.


Born in Corning on March 10, 1932, a son of George D. and Eufaula VanEtten Kirk, he married Betty Morgan on March 14, 1953.


Mr. Kirk served with the Army during the Korean war and was later employed with the Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District, in the maintenance department.


He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men.
